My fellow humans.
What a weird bunch we are, struggling to live harmoniously together on this beautiful, abundant planet. We are in constant conflict with each other, with other species, and even with ourselves, all of us trying to do what we think is right and yet somehow never truly managing to overcome our differences. Never quite able to see the bigger picture.
We search for the light and whenever we find it, we find shadows, luring us back into our never-ending cycle of conflict as we attempt to eliminate those things, those experiences, those people, and those parts of ourselves that we struggle to accept.
And yet, this isn’t what any of us really want. Deep down, somewhere inside all of us, is a yearning to be loved and accepted, and to love and accept each other. We are just too afraid and insecure to let our guards down, to be vulnerable, and to fully trust each other. Perhaps because, when it comes down to it, we struggle to trust ourselves.
For all of our differences though, none of us are truly so different. We all mysteriously appeared on this planet and are muddling through life seeking love, connection, meaning and safety, unsure how to give these same things to each other.
We can invent technologies and implement policies to solve every problem on Earth, but they will all fall short until such time that we are able to accept each other with love, forgiveness and trust. Only when we realise that unconditional love is the foundation of everything good can we truly progress toward a harmonious world.
So I start here by saying that I love you and I forgive you, whoever you are, just as I love and forgive myself. I struggle to always show it and will continue to fall short, but I give you my word that I won’t stop trying. And I invite you to join me in trying, ever so imperfectly, to love all people and all of the living world without conditions.
Lots of love
Tom
