Some days, writing a love letter to humanity is not what I feel like doing.
In fact, hiding from humanity behind a window and several houseplants from all the noise, headlines, and complexity of the world often seems much more appealing. But it’s knowing that almost everyone has this feeling, and yet we’re not all turning our heads and closing our eyes, where you can see there is so much to appreciate about the human race.
As the owner of a virtual assistant company that focuses on supporting ethical and sustainable businesses, I have seen time and time again how business owners from many different backgrounds juggle the stresses involved in running a business and a life.
Being intimidated by the challenges ahead and yet continuing to work hard whilst sticking to their values and making a positive change is a description that doesn’t just match small business owners, but many other people in our communities.
The state of the environment and the fear of how this will impact the planet and our own lives is enough to make you want to ignore the situation and pretend it isn’t happening.
However, many people are choosing not to do this. Instead, they are taking action and making a positive difference.
Despite their already hectic lifestyle.
Despite the days when it feels like nothing you can do is enough.
The determination to make a positive contribution in the face of so much negativity and chaos is amazing and should give us all hope and inspire us to do the same.
From the companies that take ‘waste’ and make it into something long-lasting and valuable, to those that are working tirelessly to become carbon neutral or to create a positive change in their local communities, my work allows me to see the best of what humanity can do when faced with a challenge.
It’s remembering that we are only human and all we can do is our best, whilst realising that when our best is helping each other and our beautiful planet, it is pretty extraordinary.
