Dear Humanity
I have faith in us.
Perhaps I shouldn’t, but I do.
Maybe it’s ignorant and naive of me to have faith in a race that causes so much hurt, destruction, and suffering. A race that needlessly exploits the world around in the name of survival, and towards an end goal of thriving and comfort. Yet what is it to thrive and sit comfortably in a world that’s dying?
But our world is not yet dying, it’s wounded and telling us to stop. And I believe that we will hear it before its too late.
To get us from where we were, to where we are now much has changed. We grew like adolescents. Not listening to wisdom innate to us and surrounding us. Instead, we tore down forests, poisoned oceans, slaughtered our kin, enslaved animals, and ravaged ecosystems.
But that wisdom lives in us and many of us are hearing it. It’s saying stop, no more, do better, you are enough.
Our ability to reflect and to be empathetic may just save us and our strength in working together for a positive shared outcome will shine through.
I have faith in us.
Faith in our kindness.
Faith in our wisdom.
Faith in our love.
Faith in our knowledge that we must heal ourselves before we can heal our environment.
Even if we spiral further as the century goes on, I know we will come to a crossroads.
One sign will point towards a cliff, from where we will fall with no return. The other will point back to the way we came, inviting us to correct our errors and come together and make the changes needed. I believe we will choose the correct path.
I believe that we all want to live in a beautiful world.
Rooting for you Humanity.
Yours
Matthew
